Ukraine's F-16s aren't the jets the U.S. Air Force flies. They fly stupidly low to dodge Russian S-400s, bait missiles on purpose, hunt Shahed drones with a 1970s cannon to save missiles they don't have, and carry Danish sensor pods and American jammers that don't come stock. In July 2026, one of them scored Ukraine's first confirmed F-16 air-to-air kill — a Russian Su-35, confirmed by U.S. Joint Chiefs Chairman Dan Caine and backed by RUSI.
This isn't a wonder-weapon story. It's six specific adaptations forced by a war nobody trained for — and why every one of them makes sense once you see the constraints Ukrainian pilots are actually flying under.
In this video:
✈️ Why Ukrainian F-16 pilots fly under the radar horizon instead of above it
🎯 The "bait formation" tactic that wins without firing a shot
🔫 Why F-16s are dogfighting drones with a cannon instead of missiles
📡 The Terma pod, AN/AAR-60, and Shadowbox jammer stack bolted onto these jets
💣 The mixed weapons loadout — from Sidewinders to SDBs on the same airframe
🛬 How Ukraine hides its F-16 fleet using Agile Combat Employment
🇷🇺 The confirmed Su-35 kill, and the F-16 lost to a malfunction the same month
📊 RUSI's numbers on 2,500+ drone intercepts — and why that pace isn't sustainable
We also address the pilot training bottleneck head-on, and debunk the "Ukraine only has 4 F-16s left" claim that's been floating around with actual delivery numbers.
