Episode 1: Building Burnt Onion Productions, Going Into Business With Family, and Writing the Thing That Scares You
In our very first episode of Found(h)er, Roxy sits down with her longtime friend Rethi — screenwriter, producer, director, and one third of the sibling trio behind Burnt Onion Productions.
They go back — literally, to their days as child TV presenters together — before getting into the real story: registering a production company with her brothers in 2008, three lean years with no income, and shooting their first hit show in her parents' living room because there was no budget for anything else.
Rethi talks candidly about getting boxed in as "the comedy people," how that frustration became their biggest asset, and the stretch of doing short-form work for BET, MTV and Nickelodeon just to keep the lights on while they found their footing.
The conversation goes deeper too — the screenplay she's been sitting on for years and can't let herself finish, what an Enneagram Type 7 breakdown reveals about how she runs from discomfort by building the next thing, and the message from a family in India that reminded her why any of this matters.
This is episode one of Found(h)er — real conversations with the women building businesses, carving their own paths, and shaping what's next.
