CLIVE BARKER & ALLEN GINSBERG – DEEP TALK 1993

Prolific visual artist, author and filmmaker Clive Barker unveils his largest painting ever, followed by a very interesting conversation between Clive and iconic beat generation poet Allen Ginsberg about: the painting, religious beliefs, counterculture, William S. Burroughs, media, poetry, grunge, apocalyptic material, being marginalized. I love when Clive says, “My god is Jesus the imagination. My god is the idea that there is within us a pure flame that can transform us and it shines most brightly in the creative act.” Catching a cab home, I remember my body vibrating intensely with that thrilling sensation I only ever felt in NYC. I only wish I had digitized this sooner than 28 years later, because surely the quality of the tape would be better, but thanks to our forced quarantine self-reflection, I had plenty of time to dig up my classic NYC footage to share with fans of these fascinating men.
