Why does one meditation practice work beautifully for one person but not necessarily for another?
In this insightful discourse, Bodhi Shuddhaanandaa Brahmachari explains how concentration begins by becoming aware of what we are feeding our mind and why our spiritual practice must eventually become deeply personal.
Negative thoughts grow when we continue giving them attention, just as adding ghee makes a fire burn stronger. Instead, Bodhi suggests spending a few minutes every day in silence, consciously observing the breath.
Slowly inhale. Pause. Slowly exhale. As the breathing becomes rhythmic and peaceful, agitation begins to settle. From that calmer state, we can move naturally toward Japa, mantra, prayer, meditation, or gratitude.
But Bodhi shares an equally important lesson: do not imitate someone else's spiritual journey. Every person has a different nature, conditioning, experience, and way of connecting with the Divine. What brings peace to someone else may not necessarily be your path.
A rose does not need to become a lotus. Even the smallest flower growing in the grass has its own beauty.
When we stop comparing ourselves with others and begin recognizing what God has already given us, our spiritual practice becomes more authentic. And as peace and happiness grow within us, we begin to experience the world differently too.
Find your rhythm. Find your practice. Appreciate who you are.
Jai Gurudev.
