Why Pick the ROG Xbox Ally X? Honest 3-Month Review (Performance Beast or Windows Nightmare?)
After 3 months of heavy use as my first handheld gaming PC, here's my raw, no-BS review of the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X. I was skeptical at first—worried about performance, build quality, and if Windows on a handheld was even practical—but this thing surprised me in some ways and frustrated me in others.
From crushing AAA titles like Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 at 60-120 FPS (even in multiplayer!), running old classics like Borderlands 2 and Fallout 4 flawlessly on the beach or by the pool, to the comfy grips, built-in gyro aiming that feels natural, and full access to every launcher (Xbox Game Pass, Steam, Epic + anti-cheat games like Call of Duty), the hardware is a powerhouse.
But it's not perfect: flimsy plastic chassis that squeaks, no carry case in the box (seriously, Asus?), cheap charger, and Microsoft/Windows 11 issues that are downright painful—endless update loops, boot failures, sleep/wake problems, Xbox app glitches, and more. I cover it all honestly.
