Combat! (1964) 'The Hard Way Back'

A heavy German advance forces the American squad into a chaotic retreat. When Sgt. Saunders tries to flush out a cowering, terror-stricken private from a building, an artillery blast collapses a massive roof beam, pinning Saunders to the floor. Panicked, Kogan flees the village and leaves Saunders behind to be captured or killed by the oncoming enemy. Back at camp, a guilt-ridden Kogan lies to Lt. Hanley and the squad, claiming the Sergeant is already dead. But as an American counterattack looms, Kogan’s conscience catches up with him. He faces the ultimate test of courage: sneak back into a German-occupied village alone to save the man he abandoned. Title: Combat! 'The Hard Way Back' Director: Bernard McEveety Writer: Edward J.
