🐍 I Am Loki | Who Is Loki? • Norse Mythology Song
“I Am Loki” is an original Loki POV song inspired by one of the most complicated figures preserved in Norse mythology:
Loki, the God of Chaos.
This song imagines Loki telling his own story—his identity, relationships with the gods and jötnar, conflicts, transformations, family, binding, and eventual place at Ragnarök.
The emotional autobiography belongs to the creative storytelling of Loki's Echoes.
The surviving Eddic sources do not give us a simple chronological “origin story” in which Loki begins in Jötunheim, moves to Asgard, is betrayed by the gods, exiled, and transformed into their enemy.
What they preserve is far stranger—and far more interesting.
Loki is identified as the son of Fárbauti and Laufey and as the brother of Býleistr and Helblindi.
In Lokasenna, Loki reminds Odin that the two once mixed their blood, invoking a bond between them.
Across the surviving stories, Loki repeatedly travels and interacts with gods including Thor and Odin.
In Þrymskviða, Loki helps Thor recover Mjölnir from Þrymr.
In the story of Iðunn, Loki contributes to her removal and later helps bring her back.
After cutting Sif's hair, Loki's actions lead into the contest that produces treasures for the gods—including Mjölnir.
Loki is also one of Norse mythology's great shapeshifters.
His transformations include a mare, a salmon, and other forms across the surviving tradition.
As a mare, Loki becomes the mother of Sleipnir, Odin's eight-legged horse.
With Angrboða, Loki fathers Fenrir, Jörmungandr, and Hel.
His wife Sigyn remains beside him during his binding, holding a vessel beneath the serpent's venom.
In Lokasenna, Loki enters Ægir's feast and exchanges accusations and insults with the assembled gods.
The traditions surrounding Baldr's death eventually lead to Loki's capture and binding.
And at Ragnarök, Loki is freed and enters the final conflict, where he and Heimdallr become each other's deaths.
There is no neat surviving Eddic biography of Loki.
No simple villain origin.
No single transformation from good to evil.
Instead, the sources preserve a figure who can help the gods in one story, create catastrophe in another, cross boundaries constantly, change shape, challenge expectations, and ultimately stand against the gods at Ragnarök.
That complexity is where “I Am Loki” begins.
