These poems are original compositions created by early Christians in China, who set Scripture to melody to facilitate memorization; they served as hymns for the brothers and sisters of the church at the time to join together in praising God. The Prophet Habakkuk served as a prophet in the Southern Kingdom of Judah—approximately between 612 and 589 BC—prior to the kingdom's fall in 586 BC. He authored the Book of Habakkuk to admonish the people of Judah of his day and to proclaim God's Word, declaring that idols made by human hands are lifeless, and that only Jehovah is the living God—the One whom all people ought to revere.
