Many Chinese businessmen fought against the Japanese regime in Manila during WWII. Their resistance and bravery are commemorated in Liat Si Tong/ Martyr's Hall of Manila Chinese Cemetery, located in Santa Cruz, Metro Manila.
In this video, Ivan Man Dy from Old Manila talks about the history of the Manila Chinese cemetery, highlighting the story of Chinese Filipino martyrs who died during the Japanese regime in Manila.
We also get an inside scoop on one of the brave Chinese Filipino martyrs, Yu Yi Tung, told by his descendants, Solomon Yuyitung and Helen Yuyitung. They recount the story of Yu Yi Tung, editor of Chinese newspaper Xiong Po, who resisted Japanese propaganda, and was arrested and eventually executed on April 15, 1942.
The martyr's hall was built in remembrance of the Wha-Chi guerilla resistance groups, and the Chinese businessmen who participated in anti-Japanese movements in Manila during WWII.
