Day 9: Thank God We Didn't Take Our Bikes Here | Mumbai to Kailash Mansarovar | Simikot to Limi

Day 9 of my Mumbai to Kailash Mansarovar journey took us from Simikot towards Limi, but this time, not on our motorcycles. We had planned to continue the journey by bike, but permission to take the motorcycles further was denied due to safety and border-related concerns. At first, it felt disappointing. But once we entered the route towards Limi in a 4x4, the road itself gave us the answer. Broken roads, massive rocks, steep climbs, sections where the road almost disappeared, and freezing river crossings made us realise just how difficult this route would have been on two heavily loaded motorcycles. And somewhere in the middle of this extreme landscape, the journey took an unexpected turn. Our driver Rajan took us to his home. We met his mother and his 98-year-old grandmother, saw their stone-built Himalayan home and beehives, and experienced a completely different way of looking at life. When I asked Rajan whether he would ever choose city life, his answer made me stop and think. Sometimes, the people we think have less… have actually figured out what is enough. This is Day 9 of my journey from Mumbai to Kailash Mansarovar.
