Every garden has a story. What lies beneath your feet? Wild Boar Street is an Arts Council England-funded project by artist Naseem Darbey, working with Bradford District Museums & Galleries and South Square Centre as part of OUR TURN Visual Arts Festival 2027. The project explores the lost district of Wapping, close to Bradford city centre. Once a bustling neighbourhood of back-to-back houses, shops and working-class communities, much of Wapping was cleared during twentieth-century slum clearances. Its streets have largely disappeared, but traces of the past may remain beneath our feet. Naseem began by exploring the site of her great-aunt Mona's former home on Wild Boar Street, a street that no longer exists. Now she's inviting you to help piece together Wapping's history and uncover more about Bradford's wider industrial past. Now it's your turn! This video shows you how to carry out your own careful dig, in your garden or somewhere else you have permission to dig. You can take part wherever you live! Found something? Help build the bigger picture. Email info@naseemdarbey.com with: Photos of your finds Where you dug (the first part of your postcode is plenty) Any stories or information about your finds or the place they came from I'm particularly interested in finds from gardens in BD3 and BD1, especially around the former Wapping district. Discoveries from across Bradford and beyond are welcome too, helping us explore the city's wider industrial story. Every find, photograph and story can help us understand more about the people and places that shaped Bradford. Please follow the safety guidance at the end of the video.
