Can a Longsword Fencer Handle the Rapier? | HEMA Experience

Ever signed up for a tournament before even owning the weapon? I somehow thought it would be a great idea to enter a rapier fencing tournament next year — even though I’ve only held a rapier once or twice in my life. With a few years of experience in longsword, saber, and sword & buckler, I figured it couldn’t be that hard… right? To find out, I went to Sprezzatura Vienna to get my first real taste of rapier fencing and see what I’m actually up against.
