Once, Govinda Bhagavatpada Acharya entered a deep state of meditation, assuming the sacred Manonmani Mudra.
At that time, heavy rains and landslides caused the Narmada River to overflow, resulting in a devastating flood. The villages situated along the riverbanks began to sink beneath the rising waters.
The frightened villagers approached Govinda Bhagavatpada Acharya and sought his protection.
However, knowing that their revered Guru was absorbed in profound yogic meditation, the villagers and the ascetics were filled with sorrow and helplessness.
Witnessing their distress, Shankaracharya descended from the mountain, placed his kamandalu (water pot) on the riverbank, and offered a heartfelt prayer to the sacred River Narmada.
By the power of his prayer, it appeared as though the mighty waters of the Narmada had been contained within the small kamandalu. The raging flood became calm.
Gradually, the water level receded, and the river returned to its natural course.
This extraordinary event spread the glory of Shankaracharya throughout all the surrounding villages.
When Govinda Bhagavatpada Acharya emerged from his meditative absorption, he came to know of these wondrous deeds performed by Shankaracharya.
He then made a remarkable prophecy:
"Just as Shankara contained the waters of the Narmada within his humble kamandalu, so too will he gather the entire essence of the Upanishads into his commentaries."
