Captain of Your Fate (You're Lost) | Grace Jukes | Original Song

Even in midst of struggle, feeling lost, not knowing your own mind, dealing with loss and heartbreak: you are the captain of your fate. We make mistakes, we learn, and we forgive. We find our purpose and path; often in little moments. Some of the imagery from this song came from one of my favourite poems; Invictus by William Ernest Henley. I shifted some of the references around slightly ("captain of your fate" as opposed to "captain of my soul"), but Henley's words have often been a source of comfort to me through difficulty. I hope you can find some encouragement in this, and trust that you will make your way through even the hardest of times. LYRICS: Verse 1: You’re lost, you’re lost, but you don’t like to say it. The cost, of being someone else was great and You can’t hold this fear in just your hands only. Mistakes you made; it felt like they’d always haunt you Bitter keepsakes of lessons you once taught you Heartbreak you feel and caused, is just enough to make you bleed. Pre-Chorus: But you gotta box it up, box it up slow. You did the best you could with what you didn’t know. So when the weight it starts to pull at your soul. Just trust you’re never facing it alone. Chorus: Hold your head up high, you will win the night. It’s only just the horror of the shade. It may take some time, but learn to love your life, you are still the captain of your fate. And you will find a way. Verse 2: You’re lost, but maybe it’s just that you’re searching for gold and diamonds - what’s the use in hurting? Perhaps this path is just a line upon the treasure map. Pre-Chorus 2: So you seek it out, seek it out slow. You do the best you can with what you do not know. So if the weight it starts to pull at your soul. Just trust you’re never facing it alone. Chorus: Hold your head up high, you will win the night. It’s only just the horror of the shade. It may take some time, but learn to love your life, you are still the captain of your fate. And you will find a way. Verse 3: There’s beauty here, and we are not forsaken. All wisdom comes from this journey that we’re takin’. In life, maybe there’s no final destination: just here. And you found me here. Outro: And you found me here.
