Lonavala Lake, built in 1876 on the Indrayani River, is a scenic spot located about 1.6 km from Lonavala town. Famously known as the "Monsoon Lake," it fills with vibrant beauty during the rainy season and largely dries up in the summer. Beyond the crowded tourist spots of Lonavala lies a peaceful and scenic destination that completely transforms during the monsoon — Lonavala Lake, popularly known as the “Monsoon Lake.” Located approximately 1.6 km from Lonavala town, this seasonal lake is fed by the Indrayani River and is surrounded by the beautiful Sahyadri hills. During the monsoon, the dry landscape comes alive as the lake fills with water, turning the entire region into a lush green and incredibly scenic getaway. During the drier months, the lake can recede dramatically, revealing large stretches of grassland around it. The lake dates back to 1876 and is widely described as being associated with a water-conservation project connected with the Tata Electric Company, with the reported objective of protecting the drainage/catchment areas of the Shirota and Valvan reservoirs.
