Parshat Bereishit - The Voice of Hevel's Blood

This class is based on Likutey Moharan Lesson 2, Part 2: In Parshat Bereishit, Hashem tells Kayin that the voice of his brother Hevel’s blood is crying out from the earth. Why does blood have a voice, and why was the earth punished for swallowing it? Rebbe Nachman and Reb Noson teach that dam (blood) is connected to modeh (giving thanks), revealing that mankind’s purpose is to use the gift of speech to recognize Hashem’s unity within the many events of creation. By thanking Hashem, we connect this world to the light of the World to Come and prepare ourselves to cry out to Him in prayer. Kayin’s murder of Hevel destroyed that potential for thanksgiving, while the earth concealed his blood. The lesson is to continually use our speech to praise and thank Hashem, even during difficulties, revealing His presence and bringing the world closer to its ultimate rectification.
