🏛️ Interesting Facts About the Route
The walk begins near Wollman Rink, one of Central Park's best-known attractions. Opened in 1950, it has appeared in countless movies and television shows. During winter it becomes one of the world's most famous outdoor skating rinks.
Central Park was America's first large landscaped public park. Designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux, it opened in 1858 and transformed Manhattan by creating a green retreat in the middle of a rapidly growing city.
Leaving the park, the route follows Fifth Avenue, often called America's most famous street. It serves as Manhattan's dividing line between east and west addresses and is home to many of New York City's most celebrated landmarks.
Along the way you'll pass the elegant Plaza Hotel, which has welcomed royalty, presidents, and movie stars since opening in 1907 and has appeared in classics such as Home Alone 2.
Farther south, the walk continues past St. Patrick's Cathedral, Rockefeller Center, the New York Public Library, Bryant Park, and eventually reaches the lively streets near 33rd Street, where Midtown's shopping district comes alive in the evening.
Walking the entire length of this route offers a remarkable journey through more than 150 years of New York history, architecture, and city life.
