Opened in April 2003, the Changseon-Samcheonpo Bridge refers to five bridges connecting three islands between Samcheonpo and Changseon Island. Each bridge, with its unique charm, creates a spectacle reminiscent of a bridge museum. Changseon Island is located in the eastern part of Namhae Province and is easily accessible via the Changseon Bridge to Namhae Province and the Changseon-Samcheonpo Bridge to Sacheon City. After admiring the jukbangnyeom from Changseon Bridge and heading north past Jijok-ri and Dangjeo-ri, the road to Jindong-ri appears on the right. If you head toward Jin-dong-ri and go all the way, you’ll reach Jangpo Village, where the harbor scenery feels warmly nostalgic. The waters in front of Jangpo have formed an underwater landscape of mudflats and sand, serving as an ideal spawning ground for mussels. If you go to a village called Gail-ri at the northern end of the eastern region of Changseon Island, you can see dinosaur footprints. Dinosaur footprints, deeply carved into the wide rocks stretching along the East Coast like a river in a valley, are vivid. Thirty-six footprints of giant pterosaurs and about sixty small footprints, believed to be made by prehistoric humans, are imprinted in a granite-like pattern on the coastal bedrock. Along the northern coast of Changseon Island, a single Korean cypress (Daebyeok-ri, Changseon-myeon, Natural Monument No. 299) guards the waters of Sacheon Bay. The relic is estimated to be over 500 years old and reaches a height of 9.5 meters. There is a legend that Admiral Yi Sun-sin rested here for lunch beneath this tree. Sinheung Haebari Village (Jijok-ri, Changseon-myeon) is famous for its “Haebari experience” (sunflower harvesting). Haebari (also known as hwakbari) is a traditional fishing method in which people go out to the beach at night during low tide carrying torches to catch octopuses, crabs, sea cucumbers, and other shellfish. During the day, visitors can enjoy mudflat experiences, making natural yuzu soap, and forest activities.
