George Butterworth: English Idyll 2

George Butterworth, 1885 –1916 English composer best known for the orchestral idyll 'The Banks of Green Willow' and his song settings of A. E. Housman's poems from A Shropshire Lad. The two English Idylls (dated 1911), of which this is the second, are directly inspired by these Housman poems that are so quintessentially English. This orchestral masterpiece breaths the very air of England. The video attempts to capture the spirit of an age-old English landscape familiar to George Butterworth and to the poet A. E. Housman. It is this land and for what it's people stood for that George Butterworth and that sadly lost generation fought so hard to defend!
