Tatterford Rag (Op.31 no.2) composed by Dean Bavister (2024)

Tatterford Rag (Op.31 no.2) composed by Dean Bavister (2024) This is the second recently completed rag (after Marigold Rag), the first strain of which was written before the Marigold (whilst working on the violin sonata I completed last month), the rest of it afterwards. Starting in A-flat, the 2nd strain is in F minor, then after a repeat of the 1st strain we venture on to G-flat and finally D-flat. Unusually, the rag quietens down right at the end with a 4-bar coda, still in D-flat, and rounds off the rag in a moment of tranquility. The rag is named after a delightful local village, of which I enjoy passing through on my sunny walks. Tranquility indeed. © 2026 Dean Bavister
