Octavio Roca has been music and dance critic for The Washington Post, The Washington Times, and the San Francisco Chronicle, and a frequent contributor to Opera News, Dance Magazine and Musical America. He is the author of Cuban Ballet, with forewords by Alicia Alonso and Mikhail Baryshnikov, and Scotto: More Than A Diva, with a foreword by Plácido Domingo. Roca also has published two philosophy textbooks, and in 2014 he was chosen by the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education as 2014 Latino Educator of the Year in his field. On July 31, 2023, Octavio Roca and I recorded our podcast, SCOTTO: MORE THAN A DIVA, at WCAT studios. During the editing period for this podcast, we learned of the passing of Renata Scotto on August 16, 2023. We dedicate this podcast to the memory of our beloved Renata who will live in our hearts forever.
