I love trains. I love travel. I love music. I love Canada. I especially love when I can enjoy all of those things all at the same time. This summer I was lucky to have the opportunity to travel through eastern Canada with VIA Rail through their "Artists On Board" program. If you're new here, a quick recap: I'd heard about the program generally through loose music connections over the last few years, and so when I saw it advertised that they were accepting applications I decided to toss my hat in the ring in the hopes I would be accepted to participate. I found out in the early spring that I had been approved for a return journey between Montreal and Halifax, and that journey happened a week ago. I brought my mom with me (she maybe loves trains even more than I do) and we made a whole week of it, touring both Montreal and Halifax between the actual train trips. Since being back I've been looking through pictures, writing in my journal to capture as many memories as I can before they begin to fade, and reminiscing about the experience generally. For those interested in what it was like/how it went: I could go on and on but in the sake of saving space here I'll tell you that it was incredible. It was one of my favourite experiences ever. I LOVED it. The train itself was wonderful, the staff were fantastic, the food (the food!) was so tasty, and I got to play three short "shows" for each day I was on the train to entertain my fellow passengers. I gotta say: meeting those other passengers, sharing that moment in time with them, potentially being part of their memories of their own train journey...phenomenal. I figured the best way to share a little snippet of my experience would be through a song. This one seemed to fit (and was one I played on the train!). With profound gratitude to VIA Rail and to everyone who cheered me on to help me get here, thank you. I'm so thankful to have had this opportunity. I hope I get to do it again someday. Maybe tomorrow I'll want to settle down. But not yet!!!! #MaybeTomorrow #LittlestHobo #TerryBush&JohnCrossencover #VIARail #luckyhotdog
