🌊 MCMANSION & FIRE ISLAND | LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK 🏝️ Come along with me as I explore two very different sides of Long Island, New York — from a historic mansion in New Hyde Park to the beautiful beaches and peaceful atmosphere of Fire Island. 🏛️ The McMansion – New Hyde Park My first stop was the famous Denton House, often called the “McMansion.” This historic house dates back to 1795, when it was built as a farmhouse for the Denton family. In the 1860s, it was transformed into a Georgian-style mansion. Over the years, the building had several lives, including being used as a funeral home and restaurants. In the 1980s, McDonald’s planned to replace the deteriorating building with a new restaurant, but the local community fought to preserve the historic structure. Eventually, the building was restored and became the unique McDonald’s that stands there today. 🏝️ Fire Island – Long Island, New York After that, I headed to Fire Island, and honestly, I fell in love with the place. ❤️ The peaceful beaches, ocean breeze, beautiful dunes, walking paths, and relaxed island vibe make Fire Island feel completely different from the busy New York City area. Fire Island has a long maritime history, including shipwrecks, fishing, whaling, and the famous Fire Island Lighthouse, which has guided ships since 1826. The current lighthouse was completed in 1858. Fire Island National Seashore was established in 1964 after years of local conservation efforts to protect the island from overdevelopment. Today, it preserves miles of beaches, dunes, forests, wildlife habitats, historic places, and the unique communities of Fire Island.
