Here's a refreshing ambient train journey on the last 2' 6" Narrow Gauge line of the historic Satpura Railway, from Itwari to Nagbhir behind a growling long-hood forward Motibagh ZDM4A locomotive. This journey is from late 2019, just before the line closed for Gauge Conversion - the visuals, context, and commentary in the video correspond to that period. The Satpura Railway dates back over hundred years and was once a sprawling 1000 km Narrow Gauge network in the heartland of Central India, cutting across the eponymous Satpura Mountain Ranges (Central Provinces of yore - present day Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra). It was laid and operated by the erstwhile Bengal Nagpur Railway primarily for famine relief. Over the years due to the Project Unigauge of the Indian Railways, the network got converted to Broad Gauge in phases, with the Nagpur Itwari - Nagbhid section being the last for closure. The Itwari - Nagbhir section falls entirely under the jurisdiction of the Nagpur Division of South East Central Railway (SECR) and passes through Kuhi, Umred, Bhiwapur, through the fertile Vidharban plains shed by the Nag, Amb and Wainganga Rivers, qnd along the thick jungles of the Umred Pauni Karhandala Wildlife Sanctuary. Thank you for getting on board. Right, proceed...until the next flag exchange! © 2026, JagRail
