The journey from Delhi to Meerut, which takes 3-4 hours by road during peak traffic, has now shrunk to just 55 minutes. This isn't a metro — it's India's first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), named Namo Bharat.
On February 22, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the complete 82-km Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor to the nation from Shatabdi Nagar station in Meerut. The train runs from Sarai Kale Khan through Ghaziabad to Meerut, with a design speed of 180 km/h.
Here's the most interesting part — for the first time in India, Namo Bharat and Meerut Metro share the same track and stations. Within Meerut's 23-km stretch, Namo Bharat runs express without stopping, while Meerut Metro halts at every station.
