Out here in the Okavango Delta, you don’t just stumble onto lost things… you have to earn them.
Thirty years ago, my good friend Alistair Wilmot’s father loaned out his croc hunting boat to a friend… and somewhere along the way, it was abandoned deep in the wilderness. Since then, it’s been swallowed by the bush — no roads, no markers, just time and the Delta slowly reclaiming it.
Five years ago, Alistair caught a glimpse of it from the air… just a fleeting moment and a rough set of coordinates. That was all we had to go on.
So we decided to send it.
We pushed deep into some of the most remote country the Okavango has to offer, chasing a ghost with nothing but a vague location and a lot of determination. What followed was everything you’d expect from a place like this — and more.
Flat tires in the middle of nowhere. Getting buried in deep mud. Blood, sweat, and long days that test you mentally and physically. Close encounters with lions, hippos, and crocodiles… all while navigating narrow channels in a tiny canoe.
This place doesn’t give anything easily.
The question is… after all these years, is the boat still out there?
