A Week of Groceries in 1962 — Only $25? What could a paycheck buy?
Could a family of four really feed itself for a week on about $25 in 1962? 🛒
In this documentary from Past Prices, we walk through an American supermarket of the early 1960s and test that famous number against the evidence. We look at what the median family earned, what milk, eggs, bread and ground beef cost, and how much of a household’s income went to food. The answer is more interesting than “everything was cheaper.”
