Two dynamic analyses are performed: free vibration and earthquake loading. For free vibration, viscous boundary conditions are used because the dynamic source is located inside the model. For earthquake loading, Free-field and Compliant base boundary conditions are applied so that the seismic input can be introduced at the bottom of the model. The soil is modelled using the Hardening Soil model with small-strain stiffness to represent hysteretic soil behaviour. The natural frequency of the building–soil system is evaluated using a Fourier spectrum. 🧠 You will learn how to: Define a Dynamic calculation in PLAXIS 2D Define viscous, free-field and compliant base boundaries Apply earthquake loading using dynamic multipliers Model free vibration of structures Use the Hardening Soil model with small-strain stiffness Analyse soil–structure interaction under dynamic loading Determine natural frequency using Fourier spectrum analysis 📐 Model Description: Structure: 5-storey building with basement Building width: 10 m Total building height including basement: 17 m Above-ground height: 15 m Basement depth: 2 m Floor and wall load: 5 kN/m² Upper soil layer: 15 m of relatively loose sand Deeper soil layer: Dense sand Deep sand included in model: 25 m Dynamic analyses: Free vibration and earthquake loading 🧪 Validation: ✅ Based on the official PLAXIS 2D Tutorial Manual ✅ Demonstrates different dynamic boundary conditions for different excitation sources ✅ Excellent reference for seismic and structural vibration analysis in PLAXIS 2D 🌐 For more advanced geotechnical FEM tutorials and automation tools, visit GeoAutoTools.com
