Rachmaninoff Prelude in G-Sharp Minor, Op. 32 No. 12 | Piano Tutorial

Rachmaninoff’s Prelude in G-sharp minor is one of those pieces where agitation, pain, and inner tension never fully disappear. An image once described by my music school teacher, Galina Fyodorovna Veselova, captures the spirit of this music very vividly. She said that in this piece one can imagine a Firebird locked inside a high tower. The bird throws itself against the bars of its cage, trying desperately to break free. That image stayed with me for many years. And every time I return to this prelude, I feel that same restless energy, that same struggle between confinement and freedom. In this video, you can follow the performance together with the keyboard and sheet music.
