Explore how people professionals can build workplaces where employees feel valued, heard and empowered to contribute. This lesson introduces inclusion and collaboration as practical foundations for trust, respect and engagement, rather than abstract organisational values.
Using three case studies, it examines Microsoft’s approach to accessibility and disability inclusion, including adapted recruitment, colleague training, accessible product design and advocacy partnerships. It then considers Unilever’s focus on gender equality through mentoring, unconscious bias training and transparent diversity reporting. Finally, Patagonia illustrates collaboration through a flatter structure, employee involvement, cross-departmental working, autonomy and external partnerships.
The lesson also introduces practical tools such as employee resource groups, published diversity data, cross-functional teams, brainstorming and collaborative workshops. It concludes with three priorities for people professionals: strengthen accessibility and inclusion, make progress transparent, and create genuinely collaborative environments. Learners are encouraged to observe one of these practices in their own workplace and identify which area is strongest and which needs further development.
