When You Cry, God Will Deliver You
Preacher:- Bishop Geoffrey Buliba
Main Text:- Psalm 18:16–20
Reference:- 1 Samuel 2:30–37
Theme:- God Delivers Those Who Honor Him
Introduction
Life can bring situations where we feel trapped, overwhelmed, rejected, or surrounded by enemies. Psalm 18 shows David crying to God in his distress, and God reaching down to rescue him. The message reminds us that God sees our struggles, hears our cries, and rewards those who walk faithfully before Him.
1. God Hears the Cry of His People
Psalm 18:16 –
“He sent from above, he took me, he drew me out of many waters.”
✓ David was in a difficult situation, but God did not abandon him.
✓ God knows when His children are going through deep waters.
✓ Our circumstances may be too difficult for us, but they are never too difficult for God.
✓ When we cry to Him, He is able to reach us wherever we are.
Lesson: Never stop calling upon God because of your situation.
2. God Delivers Us From Powerful Enemies
Psalm 18:17
✓ David's enemies were stronger than he was.
✓ Human strength could not save him, but God's power could.
✓ Some battles cannot be won by our wisdom, money, connections, or strength.
✓ God can deliver us from things that are beyond our ability.
Lesson: When the enemy is stronger than you, remember that God is stronger than your enemy.
3. God Becomes Our Support in Difficult Times
Psalm 18:18
✓ David says that God was his support.
✓ God does not only rescue us; He also sustains us while we are going through trials.
✓ When people leave us, God can remain with us.
✓ When our strength fails, God can become our strength.
Lesson: Do not depend only on people; make God your ultimate support.
4. God Brings Us Into a Place of Freedom
Psalm 18:19
“He brought me forth also into a large place; he delivered me…”
✓ God did not leave David in the place of trouble.
✓ God brought him into a place of safety and freedom.
✓ Your current situation is not necessarily your final destination.
✓ God can change your situation at the right time.
Lesson:Trust God even when you cannot see the way out.
5. God Rewards Faithfulness and Righteousness
Psalm 18:20
✓ David acknowledges that God rewarded him according to his righteousness.
God sees how we live even when people do not see.
✓ Faithfulness to God matters.
✓ Our obedience should not depend on whether people are watching us.
Lesson: Continue doing what is right before God, even when nobody appreciates you.
6. Obedience to God Brings Blessing
Reference: 1 Samuel 2:30
God says:
“Them that honour me I will honour…”
✓ God expects His servants and children to honor Him.
✓ Eli's family experienced judgment because they dishonored God.
✓ God promises honor to those who honor Him.
✓ We should honor God with our lives, service, obedience, and character.
Lesson:-If you honor God, God will honor you.
7. God Will Deal With Disobedience
1 Samuel 2:31–37
✓ Eli's sons misused their position and dishonored God.
✓ Their position could not protect them from God's judgment.
✓ Being in church, holding a title, or serving in ministry does not replace obedience.
✓ God looks at the heart and the way we live.
Lesson: Never allow position, power, or ministry to make you forget God.
Conclusion
Psalm 18:16–20 teaches us that *God is a Deliverer, a Supporter, and a Rewarder.* When we are in deep waters, He can pull us out. When our enemies are stronger than us, He can fight for us. When we honor Him and walk faithfully before Him, He will not forget us.
Key Message:
“Honor God in your life, trust Him in your troubles, and He will deliver you in His appointed time.”**
Closing Challenge
✓ Are you honoring God with your life?
✓ Are you trusting Him in your difficult situation?
✓ Are you remaining faithful even when nobody is watching?
✓ Are you depending on God or only on human strength?
Memory Verse:
Psalm 18:19 – “He brought me forth also into a large place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me.”
