This song goes all the way back to 1877 and the Turko-Russian War and tells the tale of two fictitious rivals in that conflict. It started life as a poem by William Percy French and had many more verses. The song has been parodied in much cheekier (even lewd) versions and will be familiar to Armed Forces personnel and Rugby Club revellers alike. This is the clean version and is another of my nods to Peter Skellern who included it in several of his albums in the mid to late 1970s. I hope you enjoy my version.
