Where Do You Go When You Die? Nichiren Daishonin's Answer

Where do you go when you die? According to Nichiren Daishonin, death is not a place you travel to, it is one of two phases that make up a single, continuous life. In his letter The Heritage of the Ultimate Law of Life, written to the priest Sairen-bo while Nichiren was himself living in exile on Sado Island, he identifies life and death with the two Buddhas seated together inside the Treasure Tower of the Lotus Sutra. This video walks through that teaching step by step: what happens to your karma after death, whether Eagle Peak is a literal place, and why Nichiren says the real question isn't where you'll go, but how you're living right now. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ 📖 WHAT YOU WILL LEARN ✦ Why Nichiren begins his answer not with "where," but by questioning the assumption hidden inside the question itself ✦ How life and death function as two phases of Myoho-renge-kyo, not two unrelated events ✦ What the Treasure Tower and the "thousand Buddhas" passage from the Lotus Sutra reveal about death ✦ Why Nichiren says preparing for death starts with how you live today, not how you die ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ 📝 CHAPTERS 00:00 The Question Nobody Can Answer for You 01:12 Nichiren Had Already Faced His Own Death 03:05 The Question Hidden Inside "Where?" 04:11 Life and Death Are Two Phases of One Life 05:23 The Treasure Tower: The Clue Nichiren Gives Us 06:55 So Where Is the Person Who Died? 08:10 What Happens to Your Karma? 09:22 Eagle Peak: Is It a Place? 11:07 Nichiren's Most Comforting Image of Death 12:41 Then What Exactly Is Death? 13:31 The Practical Question 14:35 The Big Reframe 15:29 Where Do You Go When You Die? ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ 💬 Comment TAUGHT if you already knew — or NEW if this is new to you. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ 🔱 GO DEEPER ✸ Daily practice, community & spiritual library → https://nmrkob.com/supporters/sign_in ✸ Nichiren Store → https://nmrkob.com/pages/nichiren-store ✸ Join our community from your phone → https://letter.nmrkob.com 🙏 Support this channel → https://join.nmrkob.com ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ 🔔 New video every Wednesday and Saturday → Subscribe:    / @nammyohorengekyobuddhism   ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ The Nam Myoho Renge Kyo - Online Buddhism channel explains the teachings of Nichiren Buddhism: the Lotus Sutra, Gongyo, Daimoku, and the daily practice of chanting Namu Myoho Renge Kyo.
