The last light in the wizard’s cottage usually disappeared long after the rest of Embervale had gone to sleep. It was not because the old wizard had important work to finish. Those days were mostly behind him. There were no urgent prophecies waiting on his desk, no kingdoms depending upon a spell before sunrise and certainly no dragons requiring immediate attention. Tonight, the problem was smaller: he could not find his spectacles. The wizard searched beneath three books, inside the pocket of a robe he was not wearing and, for reasons he could not explain, inside the cupboard where he kept the tea. His white cat watched from the windowsill. “You could help,” the wizard informed him. The cat closed his eyes. Eventually, the spectacles were discovered exactly where they had been for the past hour: resting on top of the wizard’s head. He decided not to mention this to the cat. Outside, spring had settled softly over the valley. Cherry blossoms drifted past the cottage windows whenever the night breeze moved through the branches. Some landed upon the garden path, while others floated beyond the stone wall toward the river, pale beneath the moonlight. Far across the valley came the faint sound of Embervale’s final bell. The wizard placed another piece of wood into the fireplace and returned to his chair. There had been nights, many years ago, when darkness meant preparation: a fire beside an unfamiliar road, a cloak folded beneath his head and one hand resting close to his staff. He had slept beneath ruined towers, inside mountain caves and once, memorably, in a barn occupied by a goat with very strong opinions regarding personal space. For a long time, rest had been something taken wherever the road allowed it. It had taken him longer to learn that rest could simply belong to him. The kettle murmured over the fire. He poured himself one final cup of tea and carried it toward the open window, where the air smelled faintly of damp earth and blossoms. His garden was silver beneath the moon. Lavender shifted beside the path, rosemary grew against the cottage wall and, beyond the gate, the old road disappeared between the trees toward Embervale. Nothing moved along it tonight. No travelers, no messengers and, most importantly, no adventures arriving inconveniently after supper. The wizard found this deeply satisfactory. Something soft brushed against his ankle. The white cat had abandoned the windowsill and now stood beside him, apparently prepared to forgive the spectacle incident despite having contributed nothing toward its resolution. The wizard bent to scratch behind his ears. “You are remarkably useful when nothing needs doing.” The cat purred. A few petals blew through the open window and landed upon the wooden floor. The wizard considered sweeping them away, then decided they could remain until morning. He extinguished the lamp beside his books, leaving only the low golden fire and silver moonlight. One by one, the familiar shapes of the cottage disappeared into shadow: shelves of old volumes, bundles of herbs hanging from the beams, his weathered staff beside the door. They were objects from a life much larger than this little house, and yet somehow the house contained all of it: the journeys, the people he had known, the places he remembered and even the things he had lost. The wizard settled deeper into his chair and pulled the blanket across his knees. The cat curled beside him as though this had been the plan all along. Outside, cherry blossoms drifted across the garden and toward the sleeping valley. By morning, the path would be covered in pink. The wizard would complain about having to sweep it, the cat would supervise, the kettle would boil, and beyond the garden gate the world would continue being enormous. But not tonight. Tonight, Embervale was quiet. The fire was warm, the window was open to the spring air, and for a few peaceful hours, there was nowhere else either of them needed to be. 🌸 Welcome to Tales from Embervale — a quiet corner of a fantasy world, where every melody carries a story. 🎧 Expect: Soft medieval strings, delicate harp and gentle wooden flutes, peaceful fantasy melodies and nighttime ambience for relaxation, sleep, reading and quiet moments. 🔮 Genres: Medieval Fantasy Music, Celtic Ambient, Fantasy Instrumental, Cozy Fantasy Ambience, Relaxing Medieval Music, Sleep Music 🌿 Perfect for: 📚 Reading and quiet focus 🖋️ Writing and worldbuilding 😴 Sleep, relaxation and meditation 🎲 D&D and tabletop RPG ambience 🌙 Peaceful evenings before bed ✨ What you’ll feel: Moonlight through an open cottage window, cherry blossoms in the spring breeze, a dying fire, warm tea and the comforting feeling that, for tonight, the road can wait.
