A Lost Welsh Mining Ballad of the Empty Cart ✦ Black Hollow 1892

𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝚃𝚑𝚎 𝙻𝚘𝚜𝚝 𝙵𝚘𝚕𝚔 𝙰𝚛𝚌𝚑𝚒𝚟𝚎 Folk Songs From Places That Never Existed ✦ Black Hollow · Wales · 1892 ♪ Sung in English Black Hollow was imagined as a remote Welsh mining settlement hidden between wet hills, dark timber houses and narrow coal tracks. At the end of one evening shift, the miners returned from underground as usual. All but one. A few minutes later, an empty mine cart rolled slowly out of the tunnel. His coat was hanging over the side. His oil lamp was still burning. The men went back underground and searched every working passage they knew. There had been no collapse, no broken timber and no hidden route. His tools were still where he had left them. But the miner himself was gone. By morning, the lamp in the empty cart was still burning. No one in Black Hollow ever discovered how he disappeared. ♪ Perfect For ✦ • Welsh Folk Music • Historical Folk Ballads • Mining Songs • Dark Folk Atmosphere • Old World Storytelling • Reading & Writing • Folklore & Lost History • Immersive Listening — ▪︎ The music of Black Hollow is imagined as a late-19th-century Welsh mining ballad, preserved through workers, families and the memory of a town built around the mine. Fiddle, acoustic strings, restrained percussion and the slow pulse of mining work shape the arrangement, while rain, cart wheels, boots on wet timber and the faint hiss of an oil lamp become part of the atmosphere. The song does not explain what happened. It remembers only what remained: An empty cart. A miner’s coat. A lamp still burning in the dark. Black Hollow never existed. But the story feels as though it could have survived in the valleys for generations. ✦ A Personal Musical Reimagining conceived, written, arranged, and produced by SaeidTalebi 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 — 𝐢𝐟 𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐟𝐞𝐥𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐦𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐲 𝐚 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐯𝐞. #WelshFolk #FolkMusic #MiningSongs #FolkBallad #DarkFolk #TraditionalMusic
