Simbang Gabi - ALTO | Lucio San Pedro

The popular Filipino Christmas choral piece "Simbang Gabi" was composed by the National Artist for Music, Lucio D. San Pedro, who also wrote the original four-part (SATB) choral arrangement. Lucio D. San Pedro composed the music in 1963 as part of his extensive body of Filipino choral masterworks. The words were written by an anonymous Jesuit priest, capturing the festive mood of the traditional nine-day dawn masses in the Philippines. It opens with the famous lines, "Ikalabing-anim ng Disyembre / Dingdong, dingdong / May mga parol na nakasindi...". It is widely considered the ultimate "signal song" that heralds the start of the Philippine Christmas season.
