I spent a daytime visit exploring Hamarikyu Gardens, a historic garden tucked into the Minato district of Tokyo.
Originally built as a shogunate villa during the Edo period, the garden feels like a pocket of a completely different era amid the surrounding skyscrapers. The tidal pond fed by seawater, the teahouse, and the flower gardens all come together in a quietly impressive way.
The overcast sky was a little unfortunate, but it gave the garden a calm, subdued atmosphere — and there was plenty of time to take in the finer details without the crowds that sunny days tend to bring.

(Information):
Hamarikyu Gardens is a Tokyo Metropolitan garden spanning approximately 250,000㎡, originally developed as a Tokugawa shogunate villa. Its tidal pond, connected directly to Tokyo Bay, is one of its defining features. Admission costs 300 yen for adults, and the garden is also accessible by water bus from Hinode Pier.
