We watched the shoreline lose its name,
The water pulling back the sand,
Before the first spark caught a flame,
Before the mapmaker drew the hand.
The clockwork hasn't even started,
The gears are waiting in the dark,
Before the continents were parted,
We left a completely silent mark.
Older than forever,
We don't need a shelf or floor,
Older than forever,
We were there before the door.
We didn't build a single wall,
No roof to keep away the sky,
We heard the heavy curtains fall,
And never had to wonder why.
The iron hasn't left the ground,
The copper rests inside the clay,
We move without a single sound,
Outside the boundaries of the day.
Older than forever,
We don't need a shelf or floor,
Older than forever,
We were there before the door.
The ink is dry before it's spilled,
The canvas waits without a stain,
The empty space is fully filled,
With everything that will remain.
