🚗🌏 Northeast Calling: The Great Road Trip | EP5 – Kolkata to Siliguri Road Trip | Driving Through Chicken’s Neck Welcome to Episode 5 of our biggest adventure yet — Northeast Calling: The Great Road Trip! ❤️ After reaching Kolkata, our journey towards Northeast India finally begins. In this episode, we leave the City of Joy and start our long drive towards Siliguri — the gateway to Northeast India. This was one of the most interesting drives of our entire journey. From flooded streets of Kolkata, beautiful Bengali countryside, the famous Siliguri Corridor (Chicken’s Neck), views close to the Bangladesh border, and a 14-hour highway journey — this drive had everything! 🚗 Kolkata to Siliguri Road Trip Details: 📍 Distance Covered: Approx 610 KM ⏱️ Driving Time: Around 14 Hours Our Route: Kolkata → Barrackpore → Palladaha → Barajaguli → Punglia → Gobindapur → Krishnanagar → Palasi → Berhampur → Gazole → Raiganj → Dalkhola → Kishanganj → Islampur → Chopra → Bagdogra → Siliguri 🌧️ Kolkata Turned Into Venice! The night before our departure, Kolkata received extremely heavy rainfall. When we started our journey in the morning, several parts of the city were heavily flooded. The waterlogged streets gave Kolkata a completely different look, almost like a city of canals. Despite the challenging conditions, we started our drive towards Siliguri. 🍽️ First Breakfast Stop – Luchi & Aloo After driving around 100 KM, we stopped for our first break of the day. We enjoyed a delicious Bengali breakfast: 🥘 Luchi 🥔 Aloo The food was simple, fresh, and absolutely delicious. The restaurant was clean and comfortable, making it a perfect highway stop. My wife and son enjoyed some vegetarian sandwiches before we continued our long journey. 🌿 Beautiful Bengali Countryside Drive As we moved further north, the busy city roads transformed into beautiful countryside landscapes. The drive through rural Bengal was extremely scenic, with: 🌾 Green fields 🌳 Small villages 🛣️ Beautiful highways 🌧️ Monsoon landscapes One of the most interesting parts of this journey was driving through the famous: Siliguri Corridor — popularly known as the Chicken’s Neck This narrow stretch of land connects mainland India with Northeast India and is one of the most strategically important regions of the country. At several points during our drive, we were extremely close to the Bangladesh border, with the international border being less than a kilometer away! 🐟 Trying Bengali Fish Curry for Lunch For lunch, we decided to try the famous Bengali fish curry. Unfortunately, this meal did not meet our expectations, and we were a little disappointed with the food experience. However, trying local cuisine is always an important part of our road trips, and every stop becomes a memory! 🌏 A Quick Drive Through Bihar During the evening, we briefly crossed through a small stretch of Bihar near Kishanganj before continuing towards Siliguri. 🌙 Late Night Arrival in Siliguri After a long 14-hour drive covering around 610 KM, we finally reached Siliguri at around 9 PM. We checked into: 🏨 Courtyard by Marriott Siliguri After such a long day on the road, it was time to relax and prepare for the most awaited part of our journey... 🏔️ Entering Northeast India! In the upcoming episodes, we begin exploring the magical landscapes of: 🌄 Sikkim region 🌿 Assam ☁️ Meghalaya 🌧️ Cherrapunji …and many more incredible destinations!
