[intro — soft spoken]
i used to think that if i watched everything closely enough,
nothing could ever catch me off guard.
so i planned every step...
and somehow, i was still afraid to take one.
then life asked me a question i couldn't answer:
who are you when the outcome is no longer yours to choose?
[verse 1]
i counted every setback like a debt i had to pay,
replayed a thousand conversations at the ending of the day.
tried to calculate the future from the wreckage of before,
kept my hand upon the handle, never trusting any door.
i wanted guarantees before i'd risk another fall,
wanted answers to the questions that had no answers at all.
i was gripping every detail till my fingers started aching,
too afraid to lose my footing to discover i was shaking.
[verse 2]
even training had a bargain hidden somewhere in my head:
if i give enough, i'll earn the life i've pictured in my bed.
if i follow every number, never miss and never stray,
then perhaps the world will promise not to take my strength away.
but the body has its seasons, and the road can change its shape,
you can do a hundred things right and still encounter an escape.
i mistook the lack of certainty for proof that i was weak,
when the bravest kind of confidence is one you do not need to speak.
[pre-hook]
i can choose the effort.
i can choose the care.
i can show up fully
without knowing what is there.
[hook]
let go of control!
let the unknown be unknown!
give the work everything you've got,
but stop demanding how it goes!
i can bend without breaking,
i can change without losing my soul.
i will give my best to what i can...
and let go of control.
[verse 3]
there are mornings when the mirror doesn't match the years of vision,
when the progress comes in fragments, when the body makes decisions.
when the scale tells a story that your whole life cannot prove,
when a session feels like nothing, yet you showed up and you moved.
i used to call it failure if the result was running late,
as if patience were a weakness, as if rest were a mistake.
now i measure something deeper than the numbers on a screen:
can i treat myself with respect when the day won't match the dream?
[verse 4]
i can't force a flower open by inspecting every leaf,
can't command the tide to turn by bargaining with the deep.
i can't make another person understand the way i do,
can't rewrite what has happened by reliving every truth.
but i can choose my next action, i can choose what i believe,
i can stop confusing suffering with the proof that i achieve.
there's a difference between caring and refusing to release:
one gives everything with courage; one won't let the spirit breathe.
[pre-hook]
i can choose the effort.
i can choose the care.
i can show up fully
without knowing what is there.
[hook]
let go of control!
let the unknown be unknown!
give the work everything you've got,
but stop demanding how it goes!
i can bend without breaking,
i can change without losing my soul.
i will give my best to what i can...
and let go of control.
[bridge]
what if peace isn't getting every answer?
what if strength isn't never feeling fear?
what if you can walk into tomorrow
without dragging every possible disaster here?
you don't have to solve your whole existence
before you earn the right to breathe.
you don't have to hold the sky together
to deserve a little peace.
release the result.
keep the commitment.
release the fantasy
that nothing can hurt you.
you were never meant to control the ocean.
you were meant to learn
how to sail.
[verse 5]
so i'll train when it's time, and recover when i need to,
keep my promises with patience, let the process teach me through.
i won't turn a single bad day to a verdict on my worth,
i won't spend my whole existence trying to negotiate with earth.
i can want a certain future without chaining myself to it,
i can build with all my heart without demanding when i prove it.
the goal still has my attention, but it doesn't own my breath,
i can love the life i'm building while accepting what comes next.
[final hook]
let go of control!
let the unknown be unknown!
give the work everything you've got,
you don't have to know how it goes!
i can bend without breaking,
i can stand when the plans unfold.
i will give my best to what i can...
and let go of control!
[outro — soft spoken]
take a breath.
you don't have to know how everything ends
to make this moment count.
do what is yours to do.
love what is yours to love.
learn what the day has come to teach you.
and when you've done all that you can...
let the rest be the rest.
your hands were made to build your life.
not to hold the entire universe together.
