There is one thing I built during my years on the force that I am more proud of than almost anything else in my entire life. It was not a case I solved. It was not an arrest. It was something I built from nothing for kids nobody else was fighting for. I told you last week about the kids I kept encountering on the job — the ones falling through the cracks, the ones who reminded me of myself at 16 alone in that car. I could not just write the report and move on. So I decided to do something about it. I started a program called Explorer Post 78.
