SEA Weekly Gathering at Chapel | Jenn Torpie | October 22, 2026

This morning we welcomed Dr. Jenn Torpie, the Vice President of Conservation, Education, and Community Engagement at the Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium as our #SEAChapelSpeaker to answer our #SEAguidingquestion "Are other people's needs and feelings the same as mine?" Dr. Torpie brought a unique approach to this question, by reminding us that we can think about this question within the context of all life on earth. "All people and animals have the same biological needs for food, water, and shelter. And research shows that people and animal also experience the same basic feelings...So if we all have the same needs and feelings, does that mean we are all the same? The answer is no, and that's wonderful! Because living beings have many unique ways of moving through the world and that diversity is what makes this world so interesting and so exciting."
