A contemporary of Mughal Emperor Akbar, this zamindar envisioned establishing an independent Hindu kingdom across Bengal. As one of the Baro Bhuiyans, Pratapaditya achieved partial success in his mission, making him an ideal figure for Bengal’s 19th-century renaissance. His character inspired the first prose biography in Bengali, Rabindranath Tagore’s Bou Thakuranir Haat, and several plays. In today’s episode, we explore the history and life story of this valiant warrior of Bengal, Pratapaditya. This is the first part of a two-episode series, concluding with references and sources.
