Established in the mid 19th century during British colonial rule. It was originally known as the British Infantry Bazaar, or B.I. Bazaar, named after the British Redcoats. Lal Kurti is renowned for its religious and cultural diversity. In the early 1950s, it was a clean area, but over time, the population increased, and streets narrowed.
