A group of 5 elephants — including a young calf — arrived first and began drinking peacefully while a crocodile rested nearby, quietly watching from the shore. As the herd enjoyed the water, distant elephant calls echoed through the wilderness. The sound of more giants approaching created a moment of anticipation... Soon, a second group of 3 elephants arrived, led by the matriarch, and joined the first group. One of the elephants even had a funny slip on the rocks, a rare and natural moment captured on camera and replayed in slow motion. With all 8 elephants together, the adults carefully surrounded and protected the calf while they drank at the waterhole. As evening approached, the herd began their journey away, passing close to where the crocodile had been resting. The crocodile slipped back into the water, and the lead elephant came closer to our vehicle to remind us to keep our distance. As daylight faded and the safari came to an end, we left with memories of a peaceful yet thrilling encounter with Sri Lanka's magnificent wild elephants. 🎥 Filmed at Padikema Waterhole, Yala National Park, Sri Lanka Explore the Beauty of Sri Lanka: Join me as we explore Sri Lanka’s Hidden Waterfalls, Scenic Mountains, Rivers, and Lush Forests.
