The title "YYZ" comes from the IATA airport code for Toronto Pearson International Airport, the hometown of Rush in Canada. The inspiration came when Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart heard the YYZ Morse code signal while their plane was approaching Toronto, and that rhythmic pattern became the foundation of the song’s unforgettable opening.
