Marie Stopes Tanzania (MST) has relaunched its newly refurbished Mwenge Hospital. The guest of Honor Danish Ambassador to Tanzania, H.E. Einar Hebogård Jensen also launched the new MST Contact (Call) Centre with its toll-free customer care number (0800 75 3333) that will give the public the opportunity to inquire about MST services in particular and Family Planning, General Health and other Sexual & Reproductive Health issues at no cost.
Refurbishment of the hospital has been a fruitful product of exciting collaborative efforts between MST and DANIDA/ Embassy of Denmark (along with another donor), thereby making the hospital a one-stop health facility for family planning and sexual reproductive health services.
The relaunch went hand in hand with a three-day special campaign – providing free Blood Pressure (BP) check-ups, Blood Sugar check-ups (RBG), HIV testing, provision of family planning services, as well as cervical cancer screening to visiting clients – while other general medical services will continue to be offered at a fee within the hospital.
Nationwide, MST provides Sexual & Reproductive Health services at scale, covering all regions in Tanzania through mobile family planning outreach services. In addition, general medical services are also provided at MST’s health centres. MST works very closely with the Government of Tanzania at all levels, supporting implementation of the fourth Health Sector Strategic Plan- HSSP-IV (2015 – 2020), as a public private partnership (PPP). In 2016, MST hosted almost 7 million client visits and delivered over 2.1 million Couple Years of Protection (CYP).
With funding from DFID, DANIDA, USAID and many other donors, MST is implementing multiple projects supporting delivery of integrated family planning outreach services and other sexual & reproductive health services, including comprehensive post abortion care (CPAC) and Gender Based Violence (GBV) initiatives. These projects are focused on improving access to sexual & reproductive health information and services to needy communities throughout Tanzania.
