I was 87 subscribers away from reaching 1,000 on YouTube, with just four days left before my deadline. And instead of sitting there watching the numbers, I decided to do something that felt surprisingly awkward: start asking people to subscribe. Not just posting another video. Actually telling people about my channel, sharing what I do and inviting them to come along. And goodness, did that stretch me! In this week's 100 Days of Becoming YouTube growth update, I'm sharing what happened when I started actively pursuing my goal, the conversations I had with colleagues, the communities I reached out to, and what I'm learning about asking for what I want without making it feel like pressure. Because there's a difference between creating something valuable and letting people know it exists. And maybe your goal isn't growing a YouTube channel. Maybe it's starting a business, launching a course, applying for a new role or sharing a creative idea. What might change if you stopped waiting for the goal to happen and started exploring other ways to move towards it? ⭐️ FOLLOW MY 100 DAYS OF BECOMING I'm showing up on YouTube every day for 100 days, sharing personal stories, lessons about confidence and self-trust, and what I'm learning as I build and grow. Sometimes it also means learning how to promote your YouTube channel, tell people what you're building and make an invitation that feels genuine. As part of my intentional 100 Days of Becoming challenge, I've been posting videos every day and sharing a weekly YouTube channel growth update each Tuesday. Last Tuesday, I had 907 subscribers. This Tuesday morning, I had 913, leaving me 87 away from my goal of reaching 1,000 subscribers by the end of October. By the time I recorded this update, the number had grown to 926. Those numbers made me think differently about the goal. Instead of seeing 87 as one big number, I began thinking about individual people who might genuinely enjoy the conversations happening here. So I started asking. As a freelance British Sign Language interpreter, I meet people through my work. This week, I began mentioning my channel to colleagues and others I encountered. I also shared it in online communities and started considering other ways to reach people who might connect with my content. It felt awkward at times. But I was learning that feeling uncomfortable doesn't automatically mean I'm doing something wrong. I'm also beginning to understand YouTube analytics, including click-through rate, viewer behaviour and what the numbers might teach me about reaching the right audience. This isn't a tutorial promising a shortcut to 1,000 YouTube subscribers. It's an honest, real-time account of growing a small YouTube channel, learning to market my work and building the confidence to ask for what I want. And that lesson goes beyond YouTube. Whether you're building a business, working towards a personal goal or trying to make something happen in your life, it's worth asking whether you've been relying on only one route. Sometimes the next step isn't comfortable. Sometimes it's simply being willing to let someone know what you're doing. 💬 What's one way you could move towards your goal that you've been avoiding because it feels awkward? And if you have any ideas for how I could reach more people who would genuinely enjoy this channel, I'd love to hear them in the comments! Come back next Tuesday to find out what I tried and whether I reached 1,000 subscribers. Remember, your voice matters, and it is your time to use it. Bye for now.
