In this video tutorial, Anders and Felix from Holygon will show a basic Landshape terrain design workflow from start to finish.
Watch this tutorial to learn how to combine individual Landshape commands, one by one, into a powerful chained workflow.
In this particular example, you will learn how to shape and style a small real-world parkinglot.
However, the insights from the tutorial are general. You can apply a similar workflow to many other terrain projects.
To achieve accurate results, Landshape needs only two input groups. One contains existing terrain elevations. The other contains a proposed Siteplan.
Here is an breakdown of the inputs for the workflow:
1. A group with existing-condition terrain elevations in 3D. This can be a group containing isolines, surveyed heights, scanned or phogrammetric pointclouds, or any non-landshape terrain geometry. This gives your starter terrain correct local heights.
2. A group with your proposed Siteplan in 2D. A Siteplan is one group containing completely flat and horizontal raw faces and edges only. The siteplan encodes your site's groundtypes and lateral features in 2D. The siteplan should not contain any face hole, overlap, or stray edges. Typically, the siteplan shows a proposed future state.
First, you form your initial terrain from the elevations.
Secondly, you then use your siteplan as control geometry for shaping and styling your terrain.
Landshape helps you impose your vision onto your terrain.
To do this hands-on , you enter your Siteplan group, and here, you select faces or edges. Then, you run a Landshape command. By repeating this process, you will drive results into your terrain – shaping terrain elevations, projecting materials to the terrain, and styling its look and feel. Intermittently, you can run direct tools along the terrain surface, such as brushes.
The tutorial video covers this workflow process in detail.

😃 Model Along in Sketchup
– Want to model along in Landshape as you watch the workflow video?
First, make sure that you have Sketchup and the latest Landshape installed.
Then, download the zip below, and unzip it.
Inside the pack, you will find 2 Sketchup models. Open the Sketchup model called "Start". Its contents should roughly match what you see in the video. Then, start the video and try to model along, pausing as you go.
