The name of "Avenida Rivadavia" honors the figure of Bernardino Rivadavia (Buenos Aires, May 20, 1780 - Cádiz, Spain, September 2, 1845), a politician from the River Plate who was the first president of the Argentine Republic or of the United Provinces of the Río de la Plata, between February 8, 1826 and August 9, 1827. From 1935 to 1988 the section of Rivadavia Avenue that is outside the City of Buenos Aires is part of National Route 7.1 According to City Traffic figures, only in the city of Buenos Aires the avenue has 106 intersections with traffic lights. In all its extension pass 83 bus lines. 11 of the 16 stations of line A of the Buenos Aires subway network run under the avenue, line D begins at the intersection of this avenue and Diagonal Norte; and in the neighborhood of Balvanera at the height of Avenida Pueyrredón, it crosses line H. It is commonly referred to as the limit between the north zone and the south zone of the city of Buenos Aires.
